Environmental management and policy
When the whole earth is considered as a geographic place, it is clearly seen that the physical and social processes in the Earth’s crust have a direct or indirect connection with geography. In this century named information era, it is vital to find new solutions to people’s problems by getting...
Water bodies pollution due to stormwater runoff in highways: measures and legislative framework
General
Nowadays, it is a common ascertainment that stormwater runoff in the urban and interurban road network consist non-point source pollution which contributes to the degrading of the quality of water of ground and surface water bodies. Taking into account the fact that water pollution has impacts to...
Regression Analysis and urban air quality forecasting: an application for the city of Athens
General
Air pollution forecasts in major urban areas are becoming a problem concerning the day to day environmental management for city authorities. This paper describes the development of an application to forecast the peak ozone levels with the aid of meteorological and air quality variables, in the...
Does Manufacturing Industry Agglomeration Aggravate Regional Pollution? -- Evidence from 271 Prefecture-level Cities in China
CLEANWAS
To find out the relationship between industrial agglomeration and environmental pollution, this paper carried out empirical research on the panel data collected from 271 prefecture-level cities in China from 2004 to 2017 through a spatial panel econometric model. It reviewed the influence of...
Toxic phytoplankton in eutrophic regional seas: an overview
Environmental management and policy
Toxic algal blooms have become a major environmental problem over the last few decades because of their impact on fisheries, leisure activities, national income and human health. It is known that Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) can occur naturally but the frequency of occurrence as well as their...
Impact of ultraviolet radiation on human skin owing to ozone depletion
Water and wastewater treatment and reuse
Depletion of ozone molecules in the stratospheric layer surges the flow of ultraviolet (UV) rays on the surface of the earth. Generally, UV rays are the hazardous energy waves emitted from the sun that can cause acute and chronic effects on bio species. Exposure to UV rays in humans causes skin...
Rational approach to the solution of the problem of wastewaters management - The Kastela bay case
General
Uncontrolled disposal of urban and industrial wastewaters into the sea led to the fact that in mid eighties the Kastela Bay, near the city of Split, Republic of Croatia, became one of the largest and most widely known pollution hot-spot areas of the Mediterranean region. The pollution of the Bay...
An overview of green energy sources, enhancing the environmental and economic elements of the world's sustainability
Sustainable Energy
In a transitional world, where countries strive for the achievement of better environmental quality through setting up various goals, there is a need for the substitution of fossil fuels and non-renewable resources which deteriorates the environment, with renewable energy resources which alleviates...
