This research paper focuses on the properties of laboratory made cement mortars modified with textile from worn automobile tires. Textile, in the form of fibres, has been added to cement mortars at various percentages of total cement mortar volume, which ranged from 0-2.0%. Properties of...
Use of waste glass powder in improving the properties of expansive clay soils
Solid Waste Management
Expansive soils pose a danger to the foundations of engineering structures due to their poor engineering properties. These soils are usually treated using mechanical techniques, and chemical stabilizers. However, the production of these chemicals is not friendly to the environment, thus a need to...
Enhancing Solid Waste Sustainability with Iroko Wooden Sawdust and African Oil Bean Shell Particle-Strengthened Epoxy Composites
Solid Waste Management
Bio-composite materials are gaining traction in various industries as sustainable alternatives to synthetic fiber-reinforced composites. This study investigated the impact of fine powders loading on the tensile, transverse, and compressive characteristics of hybrid composites composed of Iroko...
Experimental Investigation of Effect of Waste PET fibres on the Impact Behaviour of PET Fibre Reinforced Concrete
Solid Waste Management
Concrete, being the construction material that is extensively employed, possesses various limitations despite its adaptability in building projects. It exhibits weakness when subjected to tension, has restricted ductility, and offers minimal resistance against cracking. Concrete is widely used in...
Transforming waste into sustainable building materials: Properties and environmental impacts of Geopolymer concrete with recycled concrete aggregates
Solid Waste Management
Industrial by-products such as cementitious materials or aggregates have the potential to mitigate the adverse environmental effects associated with traditional cement manufacture. Geopolymer Concrete (GPC) is more eco-friendly than conventional concrete because it does not require cement. GPC with...
Discarded tyre rubber as concrete aggregate: a possible outlet for used tyres
General
Discarded vehicle tyres constitute one important part of solid waste which had historically been disposed of into landfills. Recent EU policies on the Landfilling of Waste (Council Directive 1999/31/EC) have however put a ban on the landfilling of whole or shredded tyres, creating an imminent need...
Investigation on Tensile and Flexural Behaviour of Fibre Reinforced Concrete Using Artificial Neural Network
