Intercomparison of forecasting methods for flood warning in the river Cam catchment
General
Currently flood warning in the catchment of the River Cam in Cambridgeshire relies on the issuing of alerts when the river level at the monitoring station at Byron's Pool, just upstream of Cambridge, reaches certain pre-determined levels. Warnings are shown to be fairly accurate, but there is very...
A multi-stage methodology for selecting input variables in ANN forecasting of river flows
General
The scientific community has recognized the necessity for more efficiently selected inputs in artificial neural network models (ANNs) in river flows and has worked on this despite some shortcomings. Moreover, there is none or limited inclusion of ANN inputs coupled with atmospheric circulation under...
Energy Demand and Carbon Emission Peak Forecasting of Beijing Based on Leap Energy Simulation Method
CLEANWAS
The long-term forecasting of the energy demand is an important issue of an area’s sustainable development, especially for mega cities such as Beijing. Beijing is changing its energy supply strategy to depend on energy imports from other provinces due to the city’s long-term low carbon sustainable...
An investigation of waste amounts from ships in Istanbul
General
In Turkey, control studies related to the wastes from ships continue, and the first waste acceptance facility (WAF) from ships was founded in Istanbul: Haydarpaşa WAF. An Intelligent Weather Prediction Model Using Optimized 1D CNN With Attention GRU
Climate change
One of the main factors affecting human livelihoods is weather events. High weather disasters with forest fires, high air temperature, and global warming that cause drought. An efficient and accurate weather forecasting approach is required to take measures against climate disasters. Therefore, it...
Improving Ozone Layer Depletion Forecasting with Hybrid Bi-Directional LSTM with CNN Classifier Model
Air pollution and health
Due to the methane emission from the mining of coal and industrial byproducts including CFCs, depletion of the ozone layer causes raised global warming and worsens climate change. One chlorine atom can lead to the destruction of 1,00,000 ozone molecules causing depletion at a much faster rate than...
