A risk-based decision analysis methodology is presented, that can be used as a water policy tool in the design of economic incentive instruments, under conditions of uncertainty. A contaminated groundwater resource system with unknown hydrogeological parameters is used as a case study. The polluter...
Water resources and groundwater quality in North Peloponnesus (Greece)
General
Groundwater plays an important role for urban and agricultural water supply in northern part of Peloponnesus. Despite increasing environmental awareness in this area, groundwater is a resource that is being stressed. Groundwater provides about 80% the total quantity of water supply. Distribution of...
Investigating public awareness towards wastewater management in a small community
Water and wastewater treatment and reuse
A critical element for the successful management of wastewater is the active participation of residents in all stages of treatment in order to ensure public acceptance. The primary purpose of this study is to identify and analyze the specific views and attitudes of the inhabitants of Leros Island...
Hill lakes: innovative approach for sustainable rural management in the semi-arid areas in Tunisia
Hydrology and Water Resources Management
In Tunisian semi-arid regions, where water is a rare commodity and the large dams cannot be justified considering the very limited water contributions and the very high evapotranspiration, innovative techniques of harvesting water have been adopted. Tunisia has initiated a policy of small dam...
Is the integrated water resources management implemented in Jiu river waters in the context of sustainable development? The modelling of the evolution of the concentration of heavy metals
Water and wastewater treatment and reuse
Once the human technology develops, the study of its influence over the environment, the soil, the water, the flora and the fauna is becoming increasingly important. In communism, due to the lack of integrated management of water resources, the quality of the waters in Romania has constantly...
Evaluating water quality by examining macroinvertebrates
Air pollution and health
The work involves the diversity and number of macro invertebrate animal using these variables as indicators of the water quality of urban streams that negatively impacts ecological health. Conventional methods often overlook these indicators that essential to understand the ecological conditions...
