Analysing the characteristics and application potentials of jarosite waste in Kosovo
Solid Waste Management
Jarosite waste released from the zinc production process during the hydrometallurgical leaching of concentrates in Trepça lead-zinc smelter, Kosovo has serious environmental problems due to the presence of toxic metals such as Pb, Cd, Zn, As etc. Its disposal in open tailing damps has become a major...
Environmental and Chemical Changes in Palm Oil Biodiesel using Homogeneous Catalysts
Sustainable Energy
The production of biofuels in several nations has increased dramatically in recent decades. Their characterization necessitates the use of distinct assessment methods. A commercial diesel specimen is compared to the properties of the biodiesel using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, linear...
Anaerobic two stage degradation pattern of fermentable components of municipal solid waste
Solid Waste Management
With increased contribution of household and kitchen wastes in overall MSW and its preferred conversion by biomethanation there is a need to study decomposition rates and kinetics, ‘leachate potential’ and related issues– especially to promote decentralized treatment. Anaerobic digestion...
Rehabilitation of abandoned saltworks to maximize conservation, ecotourism and water treatment potential
General
Numerous saltworks have been abandoned throughout the Greek islands and mainland as operations have decreased in number and increased in size. Such areas have great potential for serving the broader society if rehabilitated correctly. Changes in landscape uses recently, especially agricultural...
Generation estimation and metals recycling potentials evaluation of retired mobile phones in Philippines
Circular Economy and Bioeconomy
The goal of this work is to evaluate generation estimation and metals recycling potential of retired mobile phones in Philippines. The generation estimation is conducted with the sales&new method and statistic data, such as sales of mobile phones and amount of the subscribers. The result shows that...
Pine cone ash stabilization of expansive soils
Solid Waste Management
The use of appropriate waste materials to stabilize problematic soils, such as expansive soils that are responsible for geotechnical damage, is a common practice in geotechnical engineering. This study presents the use of pulverized ash from the combustion of pine cone (PC) waste as a stabilizing...
A New Approach to Assess Wind Potential
Sustainable Energy
Weibull Cumulative Distribution Function (C.D.F.) has been employed to assess and compare wind potentials of two wind stations Europlatform and Stavenisse of The Netherland. Weibull distribution has been used for accurate estimation of wind energy potential for a long time. The Weibull distribution...
Estimation and comparison of potential evapotranspiration based on daily and monthly data from Sperchios valley in Central Greece
General
There is no golden rule concerning the optimal equations to estimate reference potential evapotranspiration (PETref) under various climates because even in the same climatic type, different studies have produced mixed results in relation to the performance of the empirical PETref equations...
Carbon Mitigation Potential of Banana Crops Biomass and Biochar in Tropical Semi-Arid Region of India.
Climate change
The standing plant biomass that remains after harvesting bananas is the Above Ground Biomass (AGB); these residues have great carbon sequestration (CS) potential. This study quantifies the AGB yield of the Poovan (Musa acuminata) plant in semi-arid Tamil Nadu, India through novel modified non...
Investigation of ordered mesoporous carbon potential as low-cost CO2 adsorbent
Pollution Control Technology
In this study, an investigation was carried out in order to determine the potential of ordered mesoporous carbon including high ratio sucrose in its composition as a CO2 adsorbent. Structural characterizations of silica and carbon material were determined by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM...
Production of nanocellulose from lignocellulosic biomass and its potential applications: A review
Circular Economy and Bioeconomy
Lignocellulosic biomass is a complex natural polymer primarily composed of cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, and various other chemical components.
