Sustainable Development in Reservoir Sedimentation Load Estimation from Statistical Analysis of Datasets to Deep Learning Algorithms
Environmental data analysis and modelling
The process of sedimentation in reservoirs is an important issue that must be addressed for effective water resource management. Traditional methods for predicting sedimentation are complex and require extensive data inputs. In this study, we innovate by integrating four distinct neural network...
Environmental Strategies of Polluting Industries
General
Citizen concerns about environmental management practices will usually lead to public attention and legislative proposals. This paper intends to assess the behaviour of potential environmental polluting industries. In order to accomplish this objective, a survey composed of twenty-five questions was...
Statistical downscaled local climate model for future rainfall changes analysis: A case study of Hyogo prefecture, Japan
Environmental data analysis and modelling
For decades, climate models have been used to understand the present and historical climates, especially global climate models (GCMs). They are used to understand the interaction between climate system processes and forecast future climates. However, the issue of low resolution and accuracy often...
Statistical analysis of trihalomethanes in treated-water tanks: seasonality, local variability and correlations
General
Chlorine was accepted as an effective disinfectant for drinking water in early 1900s. Because of chlorination, chlorine has dramatically reduced the incidence of waterborne diseases. An unwanted side effect is the formation of harmful by-products upon chlorination. The most significant group of...
Water Quality Prediction using Statistical, Ensemble and Hybrid models
Water Quality
Water is an essential elixir for several living organisms to function and survive. But it gets contaminated through several sources such as industrial wastes, oil spills, marine dumping, etc. With a growing population, availability of good quality water is of grave importance. This has become the...
Statistical predictors of hazardous medical waste generation rates in a 40-bed general hospital
General
Objective of the work was to investigate correlations among hazardous medical waste generation rates and various hospital parameters in 2 departments and a clinic of a 40-bed Hellenic general hospital (Hospital of Ikaria). Medical waste was recorded at the bio-pathology lab, the pathology clinic and...
Evaluating the effect of the statistical downscaling method on monthly precipitation estimates of global climate models
Climate change mitigation and adaptation
Researches to foresee the possible effects of climate change on the environment and living beings for taking necessary precautions on time have increased in recent years. In the improvement of these studies, especially the reduction of estimation errors by downscaling the outputs of global climate...
A Correlation Analysis and Visualization of Climate Change using Post-Disaster Heterogeneous Datasets
Climate change mitigation and adaptation
There are numerous geo-climatic and human factors that contribute to the occurrence of natural disasters in the real-world scenario. Besides the study of causes and preconditions of such calamities, post-disaster analysis is essential for the efficient management of the disaster situation. This...
New explicit formulations for accurate estimation of aeration-related parameters in steady-state completely mixed activated sludge process
Water and Wastewater Treatment
This paper presents new and explicit equations to estimate aeration-related parameters such as standard oxygen requirement, daily energy consumption and total mass transfer coefficient for the diffused aeration. The proposed formulations are derived for the steady-state completely mixed activated...
Statistical Downscaling of Regional Climate Model: A Case Study in Penang Island, Malaysia
Global Environmental Change
Flooding events are the most devastating natural disasters that Malaysia had experienced these recent years. It has become a challenge for the government and society to mitigate the flood events that occurs naturally, especially when climate change had worsened the situation. This study focuses on...
Statistical analysis of temperature changes in israel: an application of change point detection and estimation techniques
General
The main goal of this study is to present and apply recently developed nonparametric change point detection and estimation techniques for confirming patterns of regional changes in temperature. Utilizing these methods, monthly temperatures (mean, mean maximum, mean minimum) and diurnal temperature...
A GIS methodology to support sea water quality assessment in coastal areas
