Literature reports have indicated that Particulate Matter (PM) concentrations in the atmosphere over the major urban centres of Greece are high compared to other European cities of the same size. The great majority of these reports are based on measurements that have been conducted over a limited...
Short-Term Prediction of PM2.5 Pollution with Deep Learning Methods
Air pollution and health
Particulate matter (PM), classified according to aerodynamic diameter, is one of the harmful pollutants causing health damaging effects. It is considered as cancerogenic by the World Health Organization (WHO) because of the substances found in the chemical composition of PM. In this study, short...
Emissions from Irish domestic fireplaces and their impact on indoor air quality when used as supplementary heating source
General
A field study on the impact of fireplace on the indoor air quality was carried out between 2004 and 2006, where two main contaminants, CO and particulate matters, were investigated in twenty seven randomly selected Irish houses. The results show that while the physical environment has been improved...
Survey of airborne particulate matter concentration at a marble processing facility - workers’ exposure assessment
General
The scope of the present work was to examine exposure to airborne particulate matter (PM) at a marble cutting and treatment facility. Measurements were conducted inside all sections of the facility, as well as at selected outdoor locations. PM10 concentrations were monitored continuously, with a 1...
A STUDY OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF AIR POLLUTION ON HUMAN HEALTH: PM DEPOSITION MODELLING
Air pollution and health
Earth is consisting of land, air and water. Air contains oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, water vapor, other gases are present above the permissible limit, and it creates effects on human health. It is one of the most important public health issues due to development of urbanization...
Concentrations of the selected air pollutants at Bily Kriz, the Czech Republic, for 1994 to 1999
General
Air pollution related problems, such as acidification, air quality and ground-level ozone, are recognized as some of the important problems facing the people of the Czech Republic, whose health is damaged by impacts of air pollutants. Also the impacts of these air pollutants on human health, forests...
Impact of using adulterated automotive diesel on the exhaust emissions of a stationary diesel engine
General
The EU Directives and legislation by worldwide environmental authorities impose constantly lower levels for the airborne pollutant emissions of internal combustion engines towards the goal of zero emission vehicles. During the last decade, engine manufacturers, refiners and fuel companies invest...
Measuring of particulate matter levels in the greater area of Athens at two different monitoring sites
General
Simultaneous PM 10 and PM 2 .5 sampling was conducted for a six months period, at two sites of different characteristics. The first site was located in an urban background location in the North-Eastern part of GAA, affected by primary emission sources and particle transport from other parts of the...
Size distribution and chemical composition of airborne particles at Akrotiri Research Station, Crete, Greece
General
Particulate matter measurements were performed at the Akrotiri research station on the island of Crete (Greece) using an 8-stages Andersen non-viable impactor. The main purpose of the current work was to measure the ambient levels of PM10 particulate matter as well as the concentrations of metals...
Analyzing the basic meteorological aspects of a particulate air pollution episode over the industrial area of Northwestern Greece during the November of 2009
General
The complex terrain basin of Amyntaio – Ptolemais – Kozani in Western Macedonia of Greece is an area characterized by increased industrial activity and therefore it demands continuous and assiduous environmental monitoring. A prolonged particulate matter air pollution episode was recorded in the...
Particulate matter characterization in an indoor workplace environment of a landfill
Air pollution and health
Proper Hospital healthcare Waste Management (HCWM) is imperative for ensuring public health and environmental protection. In this context, three Prefectural hospitals of Mytilene, Agrinio, and Messolonghi, were studied with respect to planning and management of infectious wastes, cost, training of...
Current status of the metal pollution of the environment of Greece - a review
