Assessment of wind energy potential in East Azarbaijan province of Iran (Case Stady: Sahand station)
Sustainable Energy
Today's world requires a change in how the use of different types of energy. With declining reserves of fossil fuels for renewable energies is of course the best alternative. Among the renewable energy from the wind can be considered one of the best forms of energy can be introduced. Accordingly...
CORRELATION OF METEOROLOGICAL PARAMETERS TO CHARACTERIZE WIND SITES: A CASE STUDY OF N'GUIGMI, NIGER
Environmental data analysis and modelling
To assess the impact of climate change on wind regimes, we performed a statistical analysis of some meteorological parameters. Indeed, variables such as temperature, humidity, pressure, and insolation are rarely or not considered in the estimation of wind regimes and therefore in the...
Public attitudes and environmental impacts of wind farms: a review
General
The promotion of renewable sources for electricity production, independent of carbon fuels and nuclear power, is a priority in the energy policy of many countries all over the world. The European Union has launched an ambitious program to increase the contribution of energy production from wind...
Seasonal and interannual coastal wind variability off the central Maluku Islands revealed by satellite oceanography
Environmental data analysis and modelling
The Maluku Islands (henceforth MI) are situated in the northeastern Indonesia. Ocean region off the central MI is pivotal as it provides a course for the Indonesian Throughflow (ITF) through the Lifamatola passage. However, sea surface dynamics off the central MI is unknown until recently due to...
Numerical modelling of solar thermal effects on street canyon flow under calm or weak wind conditions
Air pollution and health
The present study simulates the flow and temperature fields in a street canyon caused by solar heating of road and building surfaces, in either calm and weak wind conditions. Six scenarios, formed by changing the sources of heat fluxes, the wind speed (0, 1 and 3 m s^-1) and direction (±), are...
Interaction Between High-Rise Building, Wind and Pollution in District Twenty-Two of Tehran Municipality, Iran
General
The large cities are facing with a phenomenon called high-rise buildings which is due to the increasing of the population and also developing the cities. One of the negative impacts of high-rise buildings is the change in urban wind flow. Air pollutions is a major problem in the cities and the wind...
Optimizing operation of a large-scale pumped storage hydropower system coordinated with wind farm by means of genetic algorithms
Protection and restoration of the environment
Due to the intermittent and fluctuating nature of wind and other renewable energy sources, their integration into electricity systems requires large-scale and flexible storage systems to ensure uninterrupted power supply and to reduce the percentage of produced energy that is discarded or curtailed...
A Novel Model Predictive-Fuzzy Logic Hybrid Controller Design for D-STATCOM in Wind Energy Distribution Systems
Environmental Sciences
Wind energy is a resource that does not require any fuel or feedstock to be treated, refined or transported. It does not produce air pollution and hazardous waste. Because of these, wind energy, one of the major renewable energy sources, has been widely used in recent years. In this work, a three...
A Wind-Driven Hydrodynamic and Pollutant Transport Model
General
A program is developed that includes two hydrodynamic models, a 2D depth-averaged (2DH) and a Quasi-3D (Q3D), and a pollutant transport model that uses a 1st order upwinding and a 3rd order QUICKEST numerical schemes. Several tests were performed in two test basins in order to examine the...
A New Approach to Assess Wind Potential
Sustainable Energy
Weibull Cumulative Distribution Function (C.D.F.) has been employed to assess and compare wind potentials of two wind stations Europlatform and Stavenisse of The Netherland. Weibull distribution has been used for accurate estimation of wind energy potential for a long time. The Weibull distribution...
The Optimal Porosity of Shelterbelts in an Oasis–Desert Ecotone in the Junggar Basin, Xinjiang, China
CLEANWAS
Wind erosion is mainly a phenomenon of arid and semiarid areas, and the porosity of shelterbelts is an important quantitative index for estimating windbreak structure. However, there appears to be considerable variation in the optimal degree of porosity. With the example of an oasis–desert ecotone...
A multicriteria approach to evaluate offshore wind farms siting in Greece
General
Wind energy offers significant potential for greenhouse gas emissions reductions. Most applications have been developed onshore but the planning and siting conflicts with other land uses have created considerable interest and motivated research to offshore wind energy establishments. In this paper...
The impact of wind on particle mass concentrations in four european urban areas
General
The impacts of wind conditions to fine and coarse particle mass concentrations at four European urban centers, by multivariate regression analysis of particle measurements against categorized wind (direction and speed) conditions were estimated. Statistically significant associations (both positive...
A novel approach to fault detection and diagnosis on wind turbines
E2KW 2013
The structure of the wind turbines nowadays is a critical element due to their importance from the reliability, availability, safety, and cost points of view. This is more relevant when the offshore wind turbine is considered. This paper introduces a novel design of a Fault Detection and Diagnosis...
Numerical modelling of flow structures over an industrial site: effect of the surrounding buildings on dust emissions

In this paper, three-dimensional numerical simulations are used to simulate the wind flow structure over coal stockpiles of a real configuration of a power plant. Two configurations are tested for various wind directions: the first one without representing the buildings and the second one with the...
Winter Southern wind flow and air pollution episodes over Athens, Greece
General
The greater area comprising the Attica peninsula and the Saronic Gulf is greatly influenced by various local circulation types. During winter months, moderately high air pollutants concentrations are observed when the prevailing condition is either stagnant or a weak southern flow. The case studied...
