Terms and Conditions

These Terms and Conditions govern the submission, peer review, acceptance, publication and use of content published by the Global NEST Journal. By submitting a manuscript to the Journal, authors confirm that they have read and accepted these Terms and Conditions together with the Journal's editorial policies, including its Open Access Policy, Peer Review Policy, Publication Ethics and Research Integrity Policy, Copyright and Licensing Policy, and Article Processing Charges Policy.

1. About the Journal

The Global NEST Journal is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access scientific journal publishing original research articles, short papers and critical reviews in the fields of environmental science and technology.

The Journal is published by the Global Network for Environmental Science & Technology. Publishing, technical and administrative services are provided by COSMOS S.A. Full publisher and contact information are available on the Journal website.

2. Manuscript Submission

Submission of a manuscript does not guarantee acceptance or publication. All manuscripts are subject to editorial assessment and, where appropriate, independent peer review in accordance with the Journal's Peer Review Policy.

By submitting a manuscript, the authors confirm that:

  • The manuscript is original and has not been published previously, except where clearly disclosed and permitted under the Journal's policies;
  • The manuscript is not simultaneously under consideration by another journal;
  • All listed authors have made an appropriate contribution to the work and have approved the submitted version;
  • Αll necessary permissions, ethical approvals and consents have been obtained, where applicable;
  • The manuscript does not infringe the copyright, privacy or other rights of third parties; and
  • All potential conflicts of interest and sources of funding have been appropriately disclosed.

3. Editorial Decisions and Peer Review

Editorial decisions are based on the scientific quality, originality, relevance, methodological soundness and alignment of the manuscript with the Journal's aims and scope.

The Journal reserves the right to reject a manuscript before or after peer review where it does not meet the Journal's editorial, scientific, ethical or technical requirements.

All peer-review procedures are conducted in accordance with the Journal's publicly available Peer Review Policy.

4. Open Access

The Global NEST Journal is a fully open-access journal. All published articles are made freely and permanently available online immediately upon publication, without subscription fees, access charges, registration requirements or embargo periods.

Readers may access, read, download, copy, distribute and reuse published content in accordance with the applicable Creative Commons licence.

5. Copyright and Licensing

Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Licence (CC BY 4.0), which permits sharing and adaptation of the work for any purpose, including commercial use, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original author(s) and source, a link to the licence is provided, and any changes made are indicated.

Copyright is retained by the authors for all articles published in Global NEST Journal. Therefore, anyone may download and read the paper for free. In addition, the article may be reused and quoted, provided that the original published version is cited. These conditions allow for maximum use and exposure of the work, while ensuring that the authors receive proper credit. 

The copyright and licensing information applicable to each article shall be clearly displayed on the article webpage and, where technically possible, within the published article itself.

6. Article Processing Charges

An Article Processing Charge (APC) applies to manuscripts accepted for publication. No submission fee is charged, and no APC is payable for manuscripts that are rejected. The applicable APC, together with any available waiver or discount arrangements, is specified on the Journal's Article Processing Charges page. Authors are informed of the applicable charge before publication.

Editorial decisions are made independently of an author's ability to pay an APC. Editors and reviewers involved in the scientific evaluation of manuscripts do not base editorial decisions on payment considerations.

7. Withdrawal of Manuscripts

Authors may request withdrawal of a manuscript before acceptance by submitting a written request to the Journal. Following acceptance, withdrawal may be permitted only in exceptional circumstances and subject to approval by the Editor-in-Chief or the Journal's authorised editorial representative.

The Journal reserves the right to take appropriate action in cases of unethical withdrawal, duplicate submission or other breaches of publication ethics.

8. Publication Ethics and Research Integrity

Authors, reviewers and editors are expected to comply with internationally recognised standards of publication ethics and research integrity.

The Journal maintains policies addressing, among other matters, plagiarism, duplicate and redundant publication, authorship disputes, conflicts of interest, research misconduct, data and image manipulation, the use of artificial intelligence tools, complaints and appeals, corrections, retractions and expressions of concern.

Where suspected misconduct arises, the Journal may investigate the matter and take appropriate editorial action in accordance with its published policies and recognised international best practices.

9. Corrections, Retractions and Editorial Notices

The Journal may issue corrections, retractions, expressions of concern or other editorial notices where necessary to preserve the integrity and accuracy of the scholarly record. Such decisions shall be made in accordance with the Journal's published policies and recognised international standards for scholarly publishing.

10. Author Responsibilities

Authors are responsible for the accuracy, integrity and originality of their submitted and published work. Authors are responsible for carefully reviewing proofs and promptly communicating any necessary corrections within the timeframe specified by the Journal. Authors must appropriately acknowledge sources, disclose conflicts of interest and funding, and comply with all applicable ethical and legal requirements.

11. Artificial Intelligence and AI-Assisted Technologies

Authors must disclose the use of generative artificial intelligence or AI-assisted technologies in manuscript preparation where required by the Journal's AI Policy.

AI tools cannot be listed as authors and cannot assume responsibility for the accuracy, integrity or originality of a scholarly work.

Authors remain fully responsible for all content submitted to and published by the Journal, including content produced or modified with the assistance of AI tools.

12. Complaints and Appeals

Authors and other stakeholders may submit complaints or appeals concerning editorial decisions, peer review, publication ethics or Journal procedures in accordance with the Journal's Complaints and Appeals Policy.

Appeals shall be considered objectively and, where appropriate, by an Editor or a qualified person who was not directly involved in the original decision.

13. Privacy and Personal Data

Personal information collected through manuscript submission, peer review and publication processes shall be used solely for legitimate editorial, publishing, administrative and legal purposes and handled in accordance with applicable data-protection legislation and the Journal's Privacy Policy.

14. Website Content and Availability

The Journal endeavours to ensure the accuracy, integrity and continued availability of its website and published content. However, temporary interruptions may occur due to maintenance, technical issues or circumstances beyond the Journal's reasonable control.

15. Amendments to these Terms

The Journal may amend these Terms and Conditions where necessary to reflect changes in its policies, publishing practices, applicable law or recognised standards of scholarly publishing.

The version applicable to a manuscript shall normally be the version in force at the relevant stage of the publication process, unless changes are required for ethical, legal or research-integrity reasons.

16. Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by the laws of Greece. Any dispute arising from these Terms shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts of Greece, unless otherwise required by applicable law.
