Dr. Marinos Stylianou is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Conservation and Management at the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences of the Open University of Cyprys and a member of the University’s Lab of Chemical Engineering and Engineering Sustainability. He graduated from the Chemical Engineering Department of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 2002 and was awarded a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in the field of Waste Management in 2012, also from NTUA.
His research interests are focused on the field of chemical and environmental engineering such as: (i) design of decontamination processes, (ii) characterization of waste, (iii) development of sorbent materials, (iv) oil and natural gas, (v) remediation of abandoned mines, (vi) indoor air quality.
His teaching experience before his appointment as an Assistant Professor at OUC includes teaching relevant courses at the University of Cyprus, Cyprus University of Technology, European University of Cyprus, as well as the Open University of Cyprus.
From 2012 until 2022, he conducted 3 Postdoctoral research studies in the thematic areas of: (i) Use of surfactants to recover NAPLs contamination from soil, (ii) Development of Low-cost Sorbents for Environmental Applications (at Nireas International Water Research Center at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Cyprus), (iii) Sulfur removal from oil by Biodesulfurization technology (at the Department of Chemistry, Cyprus University of Technology and NORTEST Ltd).
His employment experience also includes working for more than 20 years in several European and non-European funded projects in environmental-related fields. He has (co)authored more than 50 journal papers in high-impact international scientific journals, 4 book chapters, and he presented his work in high-level scientific conferences (>80 papers).
