Benefits, Challenges and Sucess Factors of Water Safety Plan Implementation: A Review
Hydrology and Water Resources Management
Drinking water supply is a preeminent to public health, environmental protection, quality of life, economic activity, and sustainable development. Many disasters are being recorded due to poor water quality every day. In this case, it is essential to assure safe water demand through continuous...
Combination of low-pressure UF membranes with conventional water treatment systems
Water and wastewater treatment and reuse
The purpose of the study was to improve drinking water quality of conventional treatment processes by combining with UF-membrane systems. Performances of two membrane systems were evaluated in two different full-scale conventional water treatment plants in Istanbul. Low-pressure UF membranes were...
Brackish water treatment by Ceramic TiO2 Low-Pressure Nanofiltration Membranes
Water and wastewater treatment and reuse
The application of ceramic Nanofiltration (NF) membrane in brackish water treatment is increasing due to strict water quality standards. Ceramic NF is a widely used membrane process and has replaced reverse osmosis (RO) membranes in many applications due to lower energy consumption and higher flux...
Survey of public attitiude towards bottled and tap water quality in the UAE
E2KW 2013
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is one of the leading countries in the per capita bottled water consumption. This seems to be in controversy with adherences of local water authorities to stringent municipal water standards. A public survey (n= 891) was conducted to ascertain the perception of people...
A handy irrigation management method through meteorological data. Case study in N. Greece
Hydrology and Water Resources Management
Crop irrigation, especially in irrigation networks, often consumes larger quantities of irrigation water than necessary since most of the times irrigation is carried out empirically and not based on actual crop requirements. The aim of this work is the management of irrigation water though the use...
Elimination of nickel and chromium(VI) ions from industerial wastewater by electrodialysis/characteristics/impact of parameters
Water and wastewater treatment and reuse
Healthy water is a concern for the world due to rapid population growth and technological advancement. The entry of heavy metals into water as a result of various activities causes water pollution that has persistent effects. In this study, a specially designed electrodialysis cell was used to...
Integrated management of karstic waters – A case study of the Zlatibor mountain massif, Serbia
Hydrology and Water Resources Management
The Zlatibor mountain massif has significantly changed for the past 20 years due to the development of tourism, which has resulted in an increase in water consumption and environmental threats. This area abounds in considerable surface and groundwater resources, which are not utilised adequately...
Removal efficiency of antibiotics from water through constructed wetlands, a review
Water and wastewater treatment and reuse
Contamination in water bodies with antibiotics and resistance genes is becoming an increasing threat to global health. Overuse of antibiotics has become a serious ecological problem worldwide. There is growing concern that antibiotics are losing their effectiveness due to increased antibiotic...
Decision support for agricultural water management
General
Irrigation water use is the major pressure limiting the availability of fresh water resources in the Mediterranean. Efficient irrigation scheduling programs (IRSPs) are able to reduce water consumption; however, their selection and placement in large agricultural landscapes depend on location...
Uncertainty analysis in sizing rainwater harvesting tanks in an isolated island with limited water resources
Hydrology and Water Resources Management
This research work focuses on the analysis of the involved uncertainty and the corresponding reliability in the sizing of rainwater harvesting systems. For this reason, an uncertainty analysis was carried out, based on 23 years of historic daily record of a station in Kimolos Island (Aegean, Greece)...
Three eco-tool comparison with the example of the environmental performance of domestic solar flat plate hot water systems
General
Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) is a procedure used as an analytical tool for the evaluation of the environmental impact caused by a material, a manufacturing process or product. For an end product, LCA requires both the identification and quantification of materials and energy used in all stages of the...
