Improvement of marina design technology using hydrodynamic models
General
Á mathematical model is applied to calculate the water circulation in the marina of Latsi in Cyprus. The flow field in the marina shows the general behavior of coastal, wind driven flows, being strongly influenced by the characteristics of the entrance of the marina. The small dimension and the...
Is the integrated water resources management implemented in Jiu river waters in the context of sustainable development? The modelling of the evolution of the concentration of heavy metals
Water and wastewater treatment and reuse
Once the human technology develops, the study of its influence over the environment, the soil, the water, the flora and the fauna is becoming increasingly important. In communism, due to the lack of integrated management of water resources, the quality of the waters in Romania has constantly...
Assessment of the Water Quality of Lake Plastira through Mathematical Modelling for Alternative Management Scenarios
General
In the context of a research program regarding water quality management and protection plan for Lake Plastira, one of the main tasks was the establishment of a sound relationship between the minimum water level and the trophic state of the lake. The study involves the application of a eutrophication...
Modeling of Anaerobic Digestion - A Review
General
Anaerobic digesters often exhibit significant stability problems, that may be avoided only through appropriate control strategies. Such strategies require, in general, the development of appropriate mathematical models, which adequately portray the key processes that take place. This paper reviews...
New Regression models for Estimation daily temperature of Karachi and its Neural Network analysis
Environmental data analysis and modelling
This study presents the determination of the average daily temperature distribution for Karachi city. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) has been used to predict the average daily temperature of 2018, 2019, and 2020. Two regression models (linear and non-linear) were also developed. These models are...
Modeling bromide effects on the speciation of trihalomethanes formation in chlorinated drinking water
General
Speciation behavior of trihalomethanes formation in chlorinated waters due to the effects of bromide is mathematically modeled by a three-tier scheme. Equations for the mole fractions of the mono-, di-, and trihalo-intermediates at each tier level in terms of the initial bromide to chlorine molar...
Modelling the dispersion of harmful algal bloom (HAB) in the Thermaikos gulf (NW Aegean Sea)
General
Coastal hydrodynamics are directly related to important environmental and ecological issues. This paper focuses on the study of harmful phytoplankton cells’ dispersion, after an episode of an algal bloom, based on mathematical modeling. The case of Thermaikos Gulf was used for the simulation. The...
Modeling Study of a Flow Generated by the Local Imposition of Thermal Load on the Surface of a Water Body
Hydrology and Water Resources Management
This work aims to develop and apply a mathematical model for heating in the water body of an open channel via the local imposition of a thermal load on the water’s surface. The study was supplemented with laboratory experiments. The mathematical simulation includes the processes of mass, temperature...
Analytical solutions to the stream-aquifer interaction problem: a critical review
General
The aim of the present paper is to give a systematic and critical presentation of important existing analytical solutions for transient stream-aquifer interaction, which can be used to give answers to simple interaction problems or to verify mathematical models. Stream-aquifer interaction is the...
An investigation on parameters for modeling THMs formation
General
Reactions between natural organic matter (NOM) and chlorine during disinfecting drinking water form trihalomethanes (THMs) and other chlorinated by products (CBPs), some of which are possible carcinogen to human health. A number of models have been developed to predict THMs formation since the...
Validation and application of a simple model for circular secondary settling tanks
General
A simple model is presented for the dynamic calculation of the sludge blanket height and concentrations of suspended solids (diluted, sludge blanket and return sludge) in circular secondary settling tanks. The model combines a mass balance equation with three empirical equations, which account for...
The Optimal Porosity of Shelterbelts in an Oasis–Desert Ecotone in the Junggar Basin, Xinjiang, China
CLEANWAS
Wind erosion is mainly a phenomenon of arid and semiarid areas, and the porosity of shelterbelts is an important quantitative index for estimating windbreak structure. However, there appears to be considerable variation in the optimal degree of porosity. With the example of an oasis–desert ecotone...
Model for estimating atmospheric ozone content over Europe for use in solar radiation algorithms
General
Part of the attenuation of the incoming solar radiation by the atmosphere is caused by ozone absorption in the UV and visible portions of the spectrum. Ozone absorption typically accounts for only 2-3 % of the global solar radiation depletion, but it is often 10-20 % of the absorption of the direct...
Understanding marine eutrophication from agricultural runoff in semi enclosed areas: a short review in the Gulf of Geras, Greece
