A Critical probation for potentiality of bio-fuel with exquisite concoction of natural anti-oxidant additive in engines for pollutants reduction
Air pollution and health
Considering the present global fuel scenario, it becomes highly inevitable to opt for biofuel. Yet the use of biodiesel had increased pollutants which are emitted to the atmosphere such as Carbon monoxide, Unburnt Hydrocarbon, Nitrogen oxides and Smoke density in the combustion products. For this...
Bioremediation of actual soil samples with high levels of crude oil using a bacterial consortium isolated from two polluted sites: investigation of the survival of the bacteria
General
In this study, actual soil samples, taken from Kharg Island, Iran, with high levels of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs) were bioremediated by a bacterial consortium. The strains were: Pseudomonas sp., Stenotrophomonas sp., Achromobacter sp., Brevibacillus sp. and Staphylococcus sp., which were...
Assessment of groundwater contamination and the role of hydraulic fracturing operation in Weld County, USA
Hazardous Substances and Risk Analysis
In shale gas-producing countries, soil, and groundwater contamination due to surface spills associated with hydraulic fracturing operations is one of the most worrying problems that arise, since its elimination is not easy or cheap to carry out, and its effects persist for many years. Thus, this...
Assessment of the biodegradation capacity of Azolla on polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in crude oil
Environmental Sciences
In this study, the potential use of Azolla filiculoides Lam. for the bioremediative solution to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) pollution due to crude oil spills in freshwater was investigated. The plants were grown in nitrogen-free Hoagland nutrient solution media containing 0.05%, 0.1%, 0.2%...
Treatment of the oilfield-produced water and oil refinery wastewater by using inverse fluidization - A review
Water and wastewater treatment and reuse
Oilfield wastewater or produced water is a complex mixture contains oil, organic and inorganic matter and other compounds dissolved in water that ranges from fresh to brine. Discharging produced water pollute soil surface and underground water and create environment hassle. The objective of this...
Physical and Chemical Characteristics of a Mediterranean Coastal Microenvironment: The "Salty Lake" of Aghios Nikolaos (Crete, Greece)
General
The present paper examines a small and deep (53 m) salty lake, as well as the adjacent harbor of Aghios Nikolaos (Crete). The survey was carried out in 1996. Physicochemical parameters indicated that the main characteristics of the system are the inflow of karstic water from underwater springs...
Impact of Oxy-Additives on diesel engine performance and emission parameters using Waste cooking oil biodiesel
Air pollution and health
From the last two decades, the amount of waste materials recycled into useable energy sources has grown in popularity due to the fast rise in energy demand caused by the world's population growth. In other words, the conversion of garbage into energy will undoubtedly become an essential topic in the...
Cultivation of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants in Heavy Metal-Contaminated Soils
Pollution Control Technology
The growing number of polluted land areas makes the question of rehabilitation and safe/effective use of these areas increasingly imperative. For land polluted by heavy metals, the possibility of transferring the toxic pollutants to humans through the food chain further increases the importance of...

General
A climatological analysis of atmospheric concentrations of primary air pollutants in Athens, Greece, is presented for the 11-year period 1987-1997, since the automated local air pollution network operating by the Ministry of Environment started to record all conventional pollutants. The...
Application of the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to select the best oil spill cleanup method in marine protected areas for calm sea condition
Oil spill cleanup is a complex and expensive activity. There are several commonly used techniques available today. The paper suggests criteria for the selection of the best available technique that could be employed in case of oil spills in the Mediterranean Sea under specific circumstances, i.e...
