Peer review is a critical segment of the editorial publishing process that ensures integrity, reliability, and novelty of the submitted manuscripts.
The Global NEST Journal peer-reviews original research articles, short papers and critical reviews that are submitted via its online submission system. The review process remains anonymous with the reviewers providing their evaluation through the journal platform.
More information about the submission guidelines can be found at: Instructions for authors
Authors are required to maintain the confidentiality of the peer review process.
Criteria for publication
The Journal receives papers in all aspects of Environmental Science and Technology including areas such as air pollution and health, circular economy and bioeconomy, climate change, environmental management and policy, hydrology and water resources management, solid waste management, sustainable energy, water and wastewater treatment and reuse.
Publishing decisions are based on the manuscript’s writing coherence, scientific originality, publishing suitability and data validity as evaluated by the editorial team and peer-reviewers.
The authors of the submitted manuscripts must properly document the extent of use of Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process.
Peer-review process
To ensure the overall suitability of the submitted manuscripts to the Global NEST Journal thematics and guidelines along with the required quality standard and the compliance with the Journal’s rules of ethics, a preliminary review (pre-screening) is performed by the Managing Editor. Once the paper is accepted, it is assigned to an associate editor who takes full responsibility for the fate of manuscript until the final recommendation (accept/reject) to the Editor, who makes the final decision.
The associate editor invites four to five independent reviewers to each article following a double-blind peer-review process, that ensures the anonymity between the author and the reviewers.
The authors can also propose three (3) suggested reviewers upon the submission of their paper.
The reviewers are selected based on the thematics topics they have selected on their Journal profile or on the areas of expertise they have been assigned by the paper authors in the case described above.
Instructions to reviewers
- they can select if they want to be re-assigned in later versions (revisions) of the paper,
- for those who accept the review invitation, a time limit of 21 days is given to submit their comments through the online platform.
- they can propose other reviewers if they are unable to evaluate the manuscript for any reason;
Reviewer’s responsibilities
- they must provide reasoning for their assessments,
- their comments should be instructive to guide the authors to improve their research,
- they must be able to define whether the data used (graphs, tables, supplementary materials, references) are coherent with the content of the work,
- they should have relevant academic experience and expertise on the paper subject,
- they can make negative recommendations to the editor shall they consider the paper scientifically inadequate.
All evaluations are consistent with the Journal’s ethical standards; therefore, principles like impartiality, fairness, and integrity of the peer review process are not compromised.
